Thieves grab woman's purse, teen's iPod
Two robberies in the Washington area Friday showed how such crimes can be both similar and different, from day to day and place to place. They were 15 minutes apart but 30 miles from each other. The victims' ages differed by 57 years.
A 71-year-old woman was robbed about 9:20 a.m. in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road in Prince George's County, police said. The robber grabbed her purse, which was slung over her arm, and she fell, fracturing a knee cap and a finger, police said.
The other was in Manassas, about 9:30 a.m., Manassas police said. A 14-year-old was near Prince William Street while walking to school when someone with a gun approached and demanded the youth's wallet. The youth said he did not have one, and the robber walked off with the victim's iPod.
