Jo Ann H. MacPherson, 86, who did secretarial and administrative work at the CIA in the 1980s and 1990s, died Feb. 21 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. She had complications from cardiac arrest.

Mrs. MacPherson held clerical and administrative positions over the decades while accompanying her husband on his CIA assignments to Asia. She was an Arlington resident before moving in 1988 to Warrenton, in Fauquier County. Since 2003, she had lived mostly with a daughter in Falls Church.

Jo Ann Harman was born in Staunton, Va., and raised mostly in Waynesboro, Va. She graduated from the old Washington School for Secretaries.

Her hobbies included gardening, stamp collecting and photography.

Her husband of 57 years, Withrow Chase MacPherson, died in 2003.

Survivors include four children, Mary Highsmith of Falls Church, Richard MacPherson of Irvine, Calif., Peter MacPherson of Washington and Jody Csapo of Lake Monticello, Va.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
