"All eastbound lanes of the Southeast/Southwest Freeway are currently closed near 7th Street, SW due to a police investigation of an earlier crash. Police have also blocked access to the northbound 14th Street Bridge on the Virginia side.

"Motorists are strongly advised to use alternate routes and river crossings."

12:05 p.m. Update: There are widespread diversions along the freeway corridor with delays reported of up to 40 minutes. Avoid the area if you can.

11:45 a.m. Update: The male motorcycle officer suffered "pretty substantial injuries," although they apparently are not life-threatening, said Sgt. David Schlosser, a Park Police spokeman.
