Anne F. Caughey, Arlington County teacher

Anne F. Caughey, 84, an Arlington County teacher from 1951 to 1965 and whose last job in the public school system was teaching Earth science at Swanson Middle School, died Feb. 7 at her home in Vienna. She had Alzheimer's disease.

Mrs. Caughey, a Northern Virginia resident since 1951, taught at Abingdon and Tuckahoe elementary schools. She also taught biology at Washington-Lee High School.

Anne Marie Fisher was born in Mineral, Va. She received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Virginia.

Mrs. Caughey was a member of Vienna Presbyterian Church, where she was a deacon and elder and taught Sunday school.

With a group of citizens, Mrs. Caughey successfully pushed for curbside recycling pickup in Vienna by writing letters to the City Council.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, David Caughey of Vienna; three daughters, Susan Pierce of Vienna, Alicia Veil of Fredericksburg and Anne Whipple of Newark, Del.; a brother; and seven grandchildren.
