TV Highlights: NAACP Image Awards; Kathy Griffin guest-stars on 'The Defenders'
Comedian Wayne Brady and actress Holly Robinson Peete host the 42nd NAACP Image Awards (Fox at 8 p.m.), a show that honors the accomplishments of people of color working in the arts, from television and film to literature and music. Plus, Gen. Colin L. Powell gets an award for public service.
Kathy Griffin makes a guest appearance on "The Defenders" (CBS at 8), playing a Vegas comic being sued by an audience member who was a little too offended at one of her jokes. Meanwhile, the son of a hotel owner seeks help when he finds a strangled body in a hot tub but can't remember any events from the previous evening.
Singer Lionel Richie heads south on "Who Do You Think You Are?"(NBC at 8) to try and discover more information about his grandmother's father and travels through Alabama and Tennessee for clues.
Jo attempts to lend her services to a mom and dad on "Supernanny" (ABC at 8) who have a variety of ways to try to discipline their five young children, but nothing - including putting hot sauce on the kids' lips - seems to work.
New series "Beast Hunter" (National Geographic at 9) follows Pat Spain, a wildlife scientist who searches for mysterious creatures around the globe. In the premiere, he heads to the jungle to investigate a local legend about something that seems to resemble an ape, but walks like a human.
Trying to come up with a creative proposal attempt is tough, but one man thinks he's got the perfect plan on "Say Yes to the Dress" (TLC at 9) when he books an appointment at the bridal store for his girlfriend and plans to pop the question.
Ariel's flying lessons do not end well on "Flying Wild Alaska" (Discovery at 9), while western Alaska gets hit with a massive snowstorm, leaving a few pilots scrambling in the air.
The sisters transform cupcakes into the shape of a high-heeled shoe as a treat for Washington's annual Halloween Drag Race on "DC Cupcakes" (TLC at 10, 10:30), and later, compete in a bake-off to decide on a cupcake flavor when they send a batch of 10,000 to the troops in Afghanistan.
Actor Aaron Eckhart visits "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" (NBC at 11:35), along with supermodel Christie Brinkley and a performance by Thompson Square.
