Elizabeth C. Dahlin, 79, who worked for George Mason University from 1980 until 1997 and retired as the vice president for development, died Feb. 13 at Greenspring Village, a nursing facility in Springfield. She had dementia.

Mrs. Dahlin began her career at George Mason as the assistant to the president. Earlier in her career, she worked for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

Elizabeth Ann Carlson, a native of Worcester, Mass., was a 1953 graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She received a master's degree in history and education in 1975 from George Washington University.

She had been an Alexandria resident since 1964. Her memberships included Little River United Church of Christ in Annandale, the Smithsonian Women's Committee and the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association.

She was a board member of United Bank from 1987 to 2005. She was a past treasurer of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital.

Her husband of 35 years, Douglas G. Dahlin, died in 1988.

Survivors include three children, Dr. Christine E. Dahlin of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Cynthia J. Dahlin of Arlington County and Constance M. Dahlin of Beverly, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
