Huckabee vs. Portman

The Oscars may be over, but the controversy carries on. The most recent beef is between Mike Huckabee and Natalie Portman.

On Monday the former Arkansas governor invoked the movie star - who had a visible baby-bulge when she accepted her award for Best Actress - in a discussion of out-of-wedlock pregnancies. Portman is engaged to be married to the baby's father, Benjamin Millepied.

"One of the things that's troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, you know, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,' " Huckabee said during an appearance on "The Michael Medved Show."

"But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie. And I think it gives a distorted image that, yes, not everybody hires nannies and caretakers and nurses."

Was that a diss? Not according to Huckabee. In a statement posted on his political action committee's Web site Friday, he tried to clear the air. "Natalie is an extraordinary actor, very deserving of her recent Oscar and I am glad she will marry her baby's father," he wrote, walking back his criticisms. "However, contrary to what the Hollywood media reported, I did not 'slam' or 'attack' Natalie Portman, nor did I criticize the hardworking single mothers in our country."

Settling: Courtney Love, whose 140-character outbursts have come back to haunt her. Last year the trouble-prone alt-rocker twittered a few scorn-soaked barbs at Dawn Simorangkir, a fashion designer. Simorangkir filed suit, alleging that the Hole frontwoman's tweets were libelous. Now Love is paying up - $430,000 plus interest - and offering an apology, reports Agence France-Presse. "I am glad to have this behind us. I have always considered Dawn to be a talented designer," wrote Love in a statement. "I sincerely wish her the best."

Married: Mike Myers, 47, who wed longtime girlfriend Kelly Tisdale in a ceremony last fall, reports People magazine. It wasn't a secret - friends and family were in attendance - the couple just didn't feel like making the wedding into a big to-do. This is the " Austin Powers " actor's second marriage - Meyers split with Robin Ruzan, his wife of 12 years, in 2005.
