Liz Donovan, painter

Liz Donovan, 68, a watercolor painter and author, died Feb. 24 at her winter home in Melbourne Beach, Fla. She had sarcoma, a cancer of the connective tissue.

Mrs. Donovan, a former Howard County resident for 30 years, moved to St. Michaels, Md., in 1999.

In addition to watercolors, she painted still lifes and landscapes. She was a member of the National Watercolor Society and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters. She served on the board of governors of the Baltimore Watercolor Society in the early 1990s.

She published "Painting Sunlit Still Lifes in Watercolor" in 1997.

Mary Elisabeth Gallison was born in Philadelphia. She moved to Ellicott City in the late 1960s and attended the Corcoran College of Art and Design and the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, C. Richard Donovan of Melbourne Beach and St. Michaels; three children, Kelly Anderson of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., Karen Donovan of San Francisco and Tim Donovan of South Riding; a sister; and two grandchildren.
