Sarah M. Goodrich, volunteer

Sarah M. Goodrich, 65, a retired reference librarian who volunteered in local schools, died of ovarian cancer Feb. 25 at her home in Falls Church.

Mrs. Goodrich worked as a librarian at Old Dominion University in Norfolk and George Washington University before retiring in 1976. Later, she was a homemaker and volunteer at her children's schools, including Sleepy Hollow Elementary in Falls Church.

Sarah Louise McLaughlin was born in Richmond and grew up in Bluefield, W.Va.

She received a bachelor's degree in history in 1967 from what is now the University of Richmond and a master's degree in library science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1970.

She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, William W. Goodrich Jr. of Falls Church; three children, Courtney Odau of Parker, Colo., Whitney Kirkendall of Danville, Calif., and Tom Goodrich of Berkeley, Calif.; a brother; and four grandchildren.
