George Goon, 87, a bartender at the Manor Country Club in Rockville from 1979 until he retired in 2008, died Jan. 31 at the Sanctuary at Holy Cross, a rehabilitation facility in Burtonsville. He had renal cancer.
Mr. Goon owned Goon's Hand Laundry in Northwest Washington from the early 1950s until the mid-1980s. He was also a waiter at Trader Vic's restaurant from the late 1970s until the mid-1980s.
Goon Fook Go, a native of the Guangzhou region of China, moved to Boston in 1939 and soon became a U.S. citizen. He served in the Army during World War II and moved to the Washington region in 1947. He had lived in Wheaton since 1962.
His wife of 40 years, Grace Moy Goon, died in 1987.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Connie Lee of Wheaton; three children from his first marriage, John Goon and Dorleen Black, both of Rockville, and Lyman Goon of Ellicott City; three stepchildren, David Lee of Arlington County and Jeannie Lee and Mimi Born, both of Falls Church; 14 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
