Kathleen Brown, ballet teacher
Kathleen Brown, 91, a ballet teacher who taught in Northern Virginia from 1948 until she retired in the early 2000s, died Feb. 21 at Hidden Springs, a senior-living residence in Bentonville, Va. She had Parkinson's disease.
Mrs. Brown was an examiner for the Cecchetti Council of America, a ballet training and standards group, and a member of the Dance Masters of America.
She was born Kathleen Murnan Elkin and was a native of Atlanta. She moved to the Washington area in 1941. She was a Falls Church resident before moving to Springfield in 1998.
Her first husband, Dennis W. Dinneen, died in 1971 after 28 years of marriage. Her second husband, John C. "Jack" Brown, died in 2001 after 27 years of marriage.
Survivors include three children from her first marriage, Kathleen Hutchins of Front Royal, Va., Diane Becker of Harrells, N.C., and Dennis E. Dinneen of Wrightstown, N.J.; eight stepchildren, Jean Womick and Walter Brown, both of Spartanburg, S.C., Bob Brown of Glenn Dale, George Brown of Inman, S.C., Billy Brown of Severna Park, Betty Ardizzone and Jane Burhoe, both of Silver Spring, and Ginger Russell of Gaithersburg; 38 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
