Regarding the March 7 editorial "Mr. Liu's values":

Goodwin Liu had a profound effect on my judicial thought process when I was his student at the University of California-Berkeley School of Law. He taught me to continually reconsider my positions, challenging me to think beyond simplistic ideological bases for constitutional interpretation, and instead look to the spirit of the law and - most important - to respect the rule of law. I learned never to be bound to a particular judicial philosophy and to constantly expand my legal mind.

I know that Mr. Liu would make an outstanding judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit - one who will always challenge even his own views to achieve a just legal conclusion under the Constitution.
