Regarding the March 10 news story "Governor abolishes state's death penalty":

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (D) was right to point out that it is "not possible to create a perfect, mistake-free death penalty system," and the same holds true in Maryland.

Maryland has already exonerated one inmate after he spent nine years on death row. The time has come to end the possibility of sentencing or, worse, executing the innocent. The Maryland General Assembly should join the momentum and end the death penalty.
