Multiple airlines offer one-stop flights from Washington Dulles to Kiev, Ukraine, with fares starting at just under $900 round tripKamyanets-Podilskiy is about 300 miles southwest. Overnight train is $30-$45 one way, or you can hire a car and driver. Alenka VIP, in Kiev (011-380-97-103-4477), can secure train tickets or arrange a car ($450 round-trip for up to three people) to and from the town. Ask for Inna Kravets, who speaks excellent English. Gala Tour (011-380-38-493-0805, gala-tour.net.ua), affiliated with the Gala Hotel in Kamyanets-Podilskiy, can also arrange a car for up to three people for $450 round-trip, or train tickets for about $30 round-trip.

What to do
The Old Fortress (tickets $1.50) and the New Fortress (free) are the highlights, but don't miss Sts. Peter and Paul Church, with its minaret and a beautiful marble sculpture by Viktor Brodsky. You might also trek down into the gorge to the wooden Church of the Exaltation of the Cross.
