J. Alice Farren, nurse

J. Alice Farren, 93, a longtime nurse for the Prince George's County health department, died March 6 at the Riderwood Village retirement community's Renaissance Gardens in Silver Spring. She had dementia.

From 1961 to 1967, Mrs. Farren was a nurse at Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly and at the old Glenn Dale Hospital in Glenn Dale. She worked for the county health department from 1967 until her retirement in 1983.

Jessie Alice Thomas, a native of Rixeyville, Va., received a nursing degree in 1941 from the University of Virginia. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in the late 1960s.

She moved to the Washington region in the early 1960s and was a Beltsville resident.

Mrs. Farren was a member of Hillandale Baptist Church in Adelphi and volunteered as a caretaker for elderly friends and family in the region.

Her marriage to Donald F. Farren ended in divorce.

Survivors include four children, Donald F. Farren Jr. of Montesano, Wash., Barbara E Tighe of Oak Hill, Va., Adrienne M. Mielke of Placitas, N.M., and Joseph T. Farren of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Anne Tart of Clarksville; and seven grandchildren.
