Mada M. McGill, Peace Corps official
Mada M. McGill, the retired chief of operations for volunteer recruitment and selection at the Peace Corps, died of pancreatic cancer March 2 at Capital Hospice in Arlington County. She was 57.
Ms. McGill moved to the Washington area in 1979. She worked for a number of international interest groups before joining the Peace Corps in 2000. Before that, she worked as director of administration at the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, an education institute that administers the Fulbright program. She retired in 2009.
Mada Margaret McGill was born in Bethesda. She spent part of her childhood in Arlington and also lived in California and Mexico.
She received a bachelor's degree in Latin American studies from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1976 and a master's degree in Latin American studies from the University of Arizona in 1978.
In her spare time, Ms. McGill was a birder.
Survivors include her husband of nine years, John K. Scales of Alexandria; a sister; and a brother.
