L'Enfant would be proud

Saturday, March 19, 2011; 7:03 PM

Thank you for the March 16 Metro article "Hero unveiled in L'Enfant Plaza escalator mishap."

How refreshing it is to read an article about something other than violent crime or alleged misdeeds by elected officials.

Randy Widen, at the august age of 67, took it upon himself to pull "at least five people out of harm's way" after he himself was thrown off the malfunctioning escalator.

Who among us would have the courage and composure to leap into the fray after just escaping serious injury?
