Deer me

Sunday, March 20, 2011; 8:34 PM

On Thursday morning, as I was driving on Nebraska Avenue NW, I was stopped by a red light when I reached the rotary on Massachusetts Avenue. It is unusual to see deer in heavy traffic during the full daylight of the morning rush, but this morning the behavior of the wildlife was even rarer. After I stopped, four deer crossed Nebraska directly in front of me, in the crosswalk, with the pedestrian light. I believe the lead deer may even have looked both ways before crossing. My passengers and I were delighted to see traffic laws so honored.
