Drawing the line on 'rigged redistricting'
As a Democrat, I was offended by the comment attributed to Virginia's State Senate Majority Leader Richard Saslaw (D) in "The rigged redistricting process," the March 18 op-ed by Thomas E. Mann and Norman J. Ornstein. Mr. Saslaw apparently thinks it's reasonable to deliberately "make the Democratic districts . . . a little better than they are now."
I remember reading in my eighth-grade history book years ago about the awful practice of "gerrymandering," which supposedly was no longer legal. But in recent decades it's being done openly, even boastfully, by both sides. Fair-minded people from both political parties should be offended by this disgraceful behavior. We voters should tell our representatives that we expect them to play fair.
