SENDAI, Japan -- Rescuers returned a baby porpoise to the sea after it was found splashing in a swamped rice paddy days after Japan's massive tsunami deposited it nearly a mile (more than a kilometer) inland.

Pet shop owner Takashi Wagatsuma says the three-foot-long (meter-long) finless porpoise had a few scratches but otherwise seemed fine when it was found Tuesday - more than a week after the March 11 disaster.

He says local animal rescuers were alerted about the stranded animal. They rushed to catch it and then returned it safely to the ocean.
