WASHINGTON -- Authorities say a vehicle near the White House that was thought to be suspicious is safe, and several streets have been reopened.

Secret Service spokesman Max Milien says the vehicle was checked out Thursday and determined to be safe.

The vehicle had led authorities to close Pennsylvania Avenue between 17th and 18th streets, as well as on 17th Street between F and H streets.

Local and federal officials responded as a precaution.
