What's In a Name?

First there was Oprah. Then there was Bono. And now: Hillary.

In her debut on the presidential campaign trail, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) shed the rest of her names -- with volunteers hanging big banners emblazoned with "Hillary for President" from the ceiling at the East High School Community Center in Des Moines and passing out "Hillary" buttons.

She did, of course, jettison "Rodham" and "Clinton" on the campaign trail in New York years ago, and only deferential members of her staff refer to her as "the senator."

But now she may become the only major presidential candidate in recent memory with a reason to emphasize her first name rather than her last. Unless . . . Barack, anyone?
