The paper said that Page Six editor Richard Johnson, in 1997, accepted a $1,000 "Christmas gift" from restaurateur Nello Balan, who was frequently mentioned on the gossip page. (An affidavit provided to Stern by Ian Spiegelman, another former Page Sixer, says it was payment for a favorable mention.) The payment came to light two years ago. Editor-in-Chief Col Allan was quoted as saying Johnson "made a grave mistake" and was reprimanded.

Back on the campaign trail, this cycle seems increasingly to be about the spouses. Newsweek's cover examines the question that hasn't been asked since, oh, last weekend's New York Times front-pager:

"For Hillary's campaign, "The Bill Factor' is a complex one. To some he's a shrewd politician, a clear thinker, a brilliant explicator who was president during an era of relative peace and indisputable prosperity. To others he's 'Slick Willie,' an undisciplined man who let his private appetites, and his addiction to risk, blur his focus, distracting the country for much of his second term. Hillary Clinton is running for president on her own. Her name will be on the ballot; if elected, she'd be making the final calls. But how engaged would the former president be in Hillary's White House--and would his vices once again overshadow his virtues?"

And how engaged will the media be in beating this to death?

Being Mrs. Rudy Giuliani can't be easy, but at least it pays well - about $10,000 a month, says the Daily News.

A day after the former mayor disclosed in federal filings that he considers his third wife, Judith, a salaried employee, sources said he has paid her about $125,000 a year for speechwriting help - since before they were married.

The tidy sums, which the couple have always reported as income on their joint tax returns, was for speech-writing help and the many days Judith spent traveling with her husband to paid engagements around the globe.

Hillary, for the record, gets an X-rated endorsement:
