There's nothing like the immigration issue to generate a flood of comments, and today's Post contains three articles on the topic -- one on the Senate debate, one on a poll, a third on how legal theorists and philiosphers view the issue -- and an editorial. The waters are getting very deep on a topic that finds reality in great conflict with ideology. The main article reports that backers of the proposed immigration legislation think it's possible their bipartisan coalition will hold in the Senate. There's a new Washington Post-ABC poll that says 52 percent of Americans interviewed said they would support a program giving illegal immigrants the right to stay and work in the United States if they pay a fine and meet other requirements. The poll story also shows that Americans find this a complex issue, not easily or cleanly resolved.
