Vacationing Obamas order up a heaping helping of Carolina barbecue

By Michael D. Shear ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- They waited in line, like everyone else. But President Obama and the first lady were hardly everyone else Friday at the 12 Bones Smokehouse. Making a return visit to the place Obama visited as a candidate in October 2008, the couple ordered ribs, greens, baked beans, mac cheese, cornbread and two sweet teas. (Not exactly the kind of diet that first lady Michelle Obama is encouraging for children as part of her anti-obesity campaign.) For their arrival here, straight from the airport as they started a weekend getaway, the Obamas -- traveling without their daughters -- were greeted by a small throng packed into the tiny roadside restaurant.
