(AP Photo) Updated, 2:40 pm South Carolina state Rep. Nikki Haley denied an allegation by a conservative blogger that the two had engaged in an affair several years ago, insisting that the charge was aimed at derailing her rapidly-rising campaign for governor. "I have been 100 percent faithful to my husband throughout our 13 years of marriage," Haley said in a statement released to a local television station. "This claim against me is categorically and totally false." She noted that the timing of the "disgraceful smear" -- less than a week after a poll showed her leading the field in a June 8 primary -- was suspicious; "It is quite simply South Carolina politics at its worst." Haley, a one-time protege of disgraced Gov. Mark Sanford, had been riding high of late -- benefiting from endorsements from South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.(Palin South Carolina - Nikki Haley - Mark Sanford - Politics - Sarah Palin
