Schwarzenegger botches primary ballot

By Felicia Sonmez After urging Californians Tuesday morning to support the state's "top two" ballot initiative, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) perhaps took his own advice a bit too literally. Schwarzenegger held a press conference in favor of Proposition 14, a measure that would eliminate party primaries in favor of a system in which the top two finishers, regardless of party, would proceed to the general election. "Be a reformanator," Schwarzenegger, who is term-limited, urged voters. But the governor found that his primary ballot was rejected Tuesday morning after he mistakenly selected two candidates in the GOP Senate primary, in which former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina (R) is favored to prevail over former Rep. Tom Campbell (R) and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R). A poll worker gave Schwarzenegger the option of either not having his vote count or filling out a new ballot. Schwarzenegger chose the latter.
