2001 Dec. 13 Defense Department Video Bin Laden appears in Afghanistan, saying on Nov. 9, 2001, that the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States exceeded even his "optimistic" calculations.
2002 April 15 Al-Jazeera Video Video of Bin Laden and Zawahiri aired. Location and date of video unknown.
November Al-Jazeera Audio Bin Laden says "youths of God" are planning more attacks against the United States. U.S. experts say the tape cannot be authenticated.
2003 Feb. 11 Al-Jazeera Audio Bin Laden calls on Iraqis to carry out suicide attacks against Americans and defend themselves against a U.S. attack.
Feb. 13 Islamic al-Ansaar Audio In a last will, Bin Laden says he wants to die a martyr in an attack against the United States.
April 7 Associated Press in Pakistan Audio Bin Laden exhorts Muslims to rise up against Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other "agents of America." Urges suicide attacks against U.S. and British interests.
Sept. 10 Al-Jazeera Video Bin Laden and Zawahiri pictured walking through rocky terrain. Voice of bin Laden praises the "great damage to the enemy" on Sept. 11 and mentions five hijackers by name.
2004 Jan. 4 Al-Jazeera Audio Bin Laden says the U.S.-led war in Iraq is the beginning of the "occupation" of Persian Gulf states for oil. Calls on Muslims to keep fighting a holy war in the Middle East.
Feb. 24 Al-Jazeera Video Zawahiri says President Bush lied when he asserted that most of the al-Qaeda network had been crushed.
March 25 Arab television Audio Zawahiri calls Pakistan's president a traitor and urges people to overthrow his government.
April 15 Arab television Audio Bin Laden offers "truce" to European countries that do not attack Muslims. Vows revenge against the United States for Israel's assassination of Hamas founder.
May 6 Online forums Audio Bin Laden offers rewards of gold for the killing of U.S. and U.N. officials.
Sept. 9 Al-Jazeera Video Zawahiri proclaims the United States will ultimately be defeated in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Oct. 1 Al-Jazeera Audio Zawahiri urges Muslim youths to carry out preemptive strikes against the United States and its allies, and to fight even if al-Qaeda leaders are killed or captured.
Oct. 29 Al-Jazeera Video Days before the U.S. election, Bin Laden says the United States can avoid another Sept. 11 attack if it stops threatening the security of Muslims.
Nov. 29 Al-Jazeera Video Zawahiri vows to keep fighting the United States until Washington changes its policies.

2006 Jan. 19 Al-Jazeera Audio Bin Laden tells American people that al-Quaeda is preparing more attacks but holds out the prospect of a truce, saying U.S. public opinion has turned against the Iraq war.
April 23 Al-Jazeera Audio Bin Laden calls on Muslims to go to Sudan to fight U.N. forces.
April 25 Islamic Web site Video Zarqawi accuses President Bush of lying to Americans about U.S. military victories in Iraq and vows to thwart new government there.
