Questions about the Redskins?
Washington Post staff writer Jason La Canfora was online Friday, Jan. 5, at 1:15 p.m. ET to talk about the Washington Redskins and the NFL.
The transcript follows.
Read Jason's blog,
Full coverage: Washington Redskins

Jason La Canfora: Hello everyone. Well, another sorry Skins season has come to an end. Pretty much the norm the last 15 years, eh?
I get the feeling from the emails and comments I get on the blog -- Redskinsinsider.com -- that people are taking this year's failure a little harder than in season's past, however. I don't blame you; it was a pretty thorough flop.
Okay, let's dissect this bad bay for the last time, then I guess we'll do this again in March after the annual free-agent/trade follies.
Have at me.

Bowie, Md.: You guys had a great three-day series and your
Jason La Canfora: Thanks so much for the kudos. It was a lot of work but a series of stories that I believe were more than merited.
I love Buges, but come on, what's he going to do, stand before a camera and say his long-time pal and boss and the man who helped get him two last NFL contracts and millions of income -- is in over his head and the organization is in disarray?
They can use their foil, George Michael, all the way and have him lob softball questions. Hell, Mr. Sports Machine has been on the payroll for years over there.
But it doesn't take away from the validity of anything going on in Ashburn. We spoke with just about everyone in the building, and the fact was many players, coaches, etc., wanted some of this to come to light in an attempt to promote some change, because if the Redskins go on with Coach Joe and The Danny picking the players, a lot of people believe their problems will continue.

Denver: When can the Redskins give Sean Taylor a new deal or extend it?
Jason La Canfora: Whenever they like. Sean has been upset with his rookie deal since about 30 seconds after he signed it. I wouldn't think about re-doing it for at least another year -- you need to be a consistent force to get a pay raise as a youngster who already is making good money -- and he's not there yet.
_______________________
Germantown, Md.:
Thank you for your insightful article on the plight of the Redskins front office the other day.
What record did you predict for the 'Skins this year? What would be realistic to expect for next year? Are the coaches sold on Campbell or will there be a surprise in the draft?
Jason La Canfora: Thanks for reading those stories and sticking with them despite their length.
I thought they would win somewhere from 8-10 games. It's too soon to guess for next year -- let's see how the offseason goes first -- but with the defense in need of an overhaul it's hard to see them being any better than in that range again.
Heck, like 60 percent of the league is between 7-9 wins every season, right?
_______________________
New Haven, Conn.: Hey Jason, do you think there's a chance the Redskins trade Clinton Portis?
Jason La Canfora: There's always a chance, but as I've said before, it would be a silly time to do it now with him coming off a lost season and looking at another 5 months of rehab. Not going to get much value for a RB in general, especially not an injured one.
Now, if someone makes a wacky offer -- like the one they did for Portis in the first place -- that's another story.
But they know Betts has had injury problems every year but '06, and they know Clinton is dinged, too, so a two-back rotation makes a lot of sense to me.
_______________________
Re: Grilliams: Is he interviewing for the Arizona job?
Jason La Canfora: Not that I am aware of. Given everything he has told me about what he looks for in a head coaching job in our conversations over the years, I can tell you this situation runs counter to much of that.
I would be surprised.

Farmington, Conn.: So Jason,
Who's jersey is it safe to buy? I'm hesitant to buy any Jersey other than long-since retired Redskins like Riggins or Monk because nobody seems to stick around here for long, even "core Redskins."
Jason La Canfora: Get a 'Skins jersey, put 911 on the back and Bubba Tyer as the name. That dude is a warrior, takes losing as hard as anyone in that building, truly hates the Cowboys, loves this organization for all its faults and has lasted like 37 years here.
There's the ultimate Real Redskin right there.
_______________________
PDX: JLC, were you made Redskins persona non grata after your article on the 1st? I know you've answered this a hundred times but do you see any movement in Redskinland regarding reconsidering the hire of a GM and having Coach Joe "coach 'em up" or be President Joe Gibbs and relinquish coaching duties?
Jason La Canfora: Not any more so than usual. I was up front with Joe and gave the organization every chance to respond to what was reported. I was more than fair. They are 21-27; what would they expect from the people who cover them -- platitudes?
I don't see anything changing with a GM, and neither did anyone I spoke to in Redskins Park or around the league.
Never say never with these guys, but it would surprise a great many people if they did that.
_______________________
Arlington, Va.: Hey Jason great job through the season and thanks for the music recommendations, loving "Marquee Moon."
Quick question, you think they need to start all over with the defense? Is there anything there to build around?
Jason La Canfora: That disc is unbelievable, eh?
If you like that, definitely check out Richard Hell's solo stuff. Verlaine is a sick musician.
Any Patti Smith. Iggy Pop or Bowie from that era would probably suit you as well.
As for the defense, there are some players to build around, but they need an influx of talent at all three spots -- on the line (DE in particular), LB and in the secondary.
Gregg needs to rework his system as well to take away the deep ball and improve in Cover-2.

Polock Johnny's for lunch?: Jason:
Now that you're back in B'more, hope you're enjoying the local delicacies, like a Polock Johnny's unburger with the works. Meanwhile, while boning up on the Ravens, will it be possible to focus on their player personnel development program, an area where they blow away the 'Skins? If I understand it correctly, the Ravens do not belong to the scouting combine, and spend a lot of time meeting face to face with players and coaches. Is that a big factor in their ability to not only draft well, but find undrafted gems such as Bart Scott?
Jason La Canfora: Dude, now your talking. I grew up in Highlandtown and we used to have one right on Eastern Ave. Good stuff.
They shot a scene on "The Wire" in there, and I started fiending for some Polock Johnny's pretty bad, like I was Bubs or something.
I plan to spend as much time as possible with Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta, their director of college scouting, and trust me, the difference between the way they operate and the approach taken by the Redskins could not be more opposed.
I will probably get into it a bit on a story on the Ravens offensive line that should run sometime next week.
_______________________
D.C.: Given the improvement of the offense with Jason towards the end of this season, can we say that the Al Saunders experiment does work, and we should give it more than one year?
Jason La Canfora: Absolutely. The offense is on the right track ... the defense will be the latest work in progress.
_______________________
Marion, Va.: At position six in next year's draft, what is your opinion on who the Redskins might pick or any trade the Redskins may be interested in?
Jason La Canfora: I think they should exhaust all options about trading down. Also, until we see what they do in free agency, it's hard to say. Unlike most teams, these guys use free agency/trades as the major means to upgrade the roster, and the draft to try to fill a hole or two (and when you only have 3-4 picks most years, I guess I could see why).
If they do not land a stud end in free agency, then I would expect them to draft for need there.
_______________________
Food for thought: Just one example of how other organizations do things differently and better than the 'Skins, and something for the 'Skins to look at, as they try to improve: The 'Skins decided to trade for Brandon Lloyd to be their second receiver. He was a former fourth-round pick and cost them third- and fourth-round picks. He caught 23 passes for no TDs this year. The Ravens drafted Demetrius Williams in the fourth round this year to be their third receiver. He caught 22 passes (and averaged three more yards a catch than Lloyd) and had two TDs. Who got the better value for their resources (money and draft picks)? Which method makes more sense?
Jason La Canfora: Exactly.
Don't expect anything to change with your team, though. When I discussed how badly the Redskins overpaid for Lloyd with Gibbs, he told me they made a shrewd deal and did not give up too much. He implied third-round picks are crapshoots, and Lloyd is a proven commodity.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
_______________________
Laurel, Md.: Betts has been majorly hyped up this season because of his production and his contract. Lost in all this is that this guy is becoming fumble prone. He's lost a few fumbles that cost us a few games, and had a game where he had two fumbles. Seems like he's protecting the ball, but also that he needs to build up more mass in his arms to hold onto the ball tighter.
Jason La Canfora: I imagine Betts and RB coach Earnest Byner, who has quietly done a superior job on this staff for three years, will work constantly on holding the ball in the offseason.
It is indeed a significant issue and one Ladell will have to overcome to be a true top back. But it can be done, just ask the dude who tore up the 'Skins for like 234 and 3 TDs a week ago.
_______________________
Burke, Va.: JLC:
1. How many defensive starters on the 'Skins would start on a GOOD defense? I count around five, at most.
2. Why would ANYBODY trade for Portis right now with his physical issues?
3. Except for the maturation of Campbell, why should we expect the offense to be any better next year? Can the whole OL stay healthy for a whole year again?
Jason La Canfora: 1. Sounds about right -- very little individual talent or depth over there.
2. That's my point. So far we're 2-for-2.
3. They have a better grasp of the passing game and now have 6 months to work with JC, someone who never even really threw passes to the first-string receivers until Nov. They should have two quality backs and an identity that I imagine it will not take 10 games to rediscover next season.
_______________________
D.C.: Do you think Joe Gibbs is the man to fix the Redskins? What are Bill Cowher's chances of coming to D.C.?
Jason La Canfora: Without a real GM there, you can have any coach you want. I don't see anything really changing regardless.

Section 425: Jason - Thanks again for coming up to the upper deck to visit with us before Saturday's game. Did anyone give you a quizzical look while you were walking around the upper deck concourse? Did you pick up a jumbo "All Beef" hot dog or any uh, non-alcoholic beverage to help you warm up on the way back to the press box?
Jason La Canfora: Hey buddy, me pleasure. Was fun to meet you and your dad.
Actually with the tie on, some dudes stopped me in the concourse and were joking with me, saying I looked like Snyder.
I quickly responded that of course I wasn't the owner - I was actually walking around the upper deck on game day (the first telltale sign) and 2) I was at FedEx Field without a vortex of security guys circling me (telltale No. 2) and was actually talking to the fans who spent their hard-earned money to attend the game.
A hearty laugh was had by all, then I chugged three beers with them (okay, I made up the beer part but the rest of the story is the real deal).
_______________________
Baltimore: Can you please post a link to all three parts of the series. I did not see The Post on Monday. (Live in Baltimore, work in D.C. and had Monday off of course.)
washingtonpost.com:
Jason La Canfora: There you go B-more.
_______________________
1900 L St: Has any thought been given to playing Archuleta at outside LB? Isn't a safety who can't run/cover...a LB? He'd he have to bulk up but at least he'd be on the field.
Jason La Canfora: He doesn't have the size or frame to do it now, though I imagine they will find a way to incorporate him into more likely running downs next season if he's still here. Would have to be situational, though.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: Offensively, we can only judge Al Saunders from his previous stint. In KC, the offense was heavily dependent on Priest Holmes, Trent Green, and Tony Gonzalez. It seems like his offense is better suited to focus on isolating the TE on favorable one-on-one matchups. With this said, why did we spend as much as we did on WR decoys? I don't remember a WR in KC having over 1,000 yards/80 catches in a year when Saunders was there.
Jason La Canfora: They needed Cooley to block a heck of a lot more than they hoped for, and that was a consequence.
They need to add two big-time blocking tight ends, cause Fauria was not getting it done, and he was big-time injury prone -- no surprise he missed most of the season.
_______________________
Chevy Chase, D.C.: What is your take on Clinton's comments on the John Thompson show? Did he shoot himself in the foot?
Jason La Canfora: Actually, I thought he in essence validated much of what we had in the newspaper this week.
The dude speaks his mind, especially if you're compensating him to talk.
_______________________
Springfield, Va.: Jason- The Redskins have the largest and most expensive coaching staff in the NFL. Can you imagine the smallest and least expensive coaching staff doing worse than 5-1l with this team? If not, how can Gibbs bring back the entire coaching staff -- a staff that had carte blanche to purse free agents. Who is being held accountable? Archuleta?
Jason La Canfora: Actually, that cyborg, quasi-human Saban had more assistance. (What a farce he is. Please, your heart is in college coaching. Your wallet is all that's leading you around. Another NFL failure from the college ranks, with two years and out. Sounds familiar.)
Gibbs holds himself accountable, but that's about it from what I can gather. Even Vinny skates free. Wish I worked someplace like that, must be nice.
_______________________
Gambrills, Md.: Great article. Just wondering, the players that spoke to you anonymously, did that happen during or after the season? If during, why did you wait until after the season to publish?
Jason La Canfora: I spent about the last 4-5 weeks of the season working on that story, but had been talking to players all season and taking their temperature on different issues. It takes a lot of time to write, report and edit stuff like that. It was a monster to finish.
_______________________
Fairfax, Va.: Jason:
Thanks for the series of articles about the Skins, and don't let the pathetic homers get you down. Some of us actually DO want a clear-eyed look at this organization's issues, which we'll never get from King George, Sonny, Sam, or the geek-a-zoids over at extremeskins. There are those who think it CAN'T be broken as long as Saint Joe is here, and you're not writing for them.
Besides Buges mumbling with George Michael, any other response from the organization to the series?
Jason La Canfora: Nope. I sat around there for a few days and heard basically nothing. Trust me, when they have a real problem about something I'll get a late-night phone call or e-mail as soon as the thing posts on the Web.
They didn't like it, but at a certain level they know they can't refute it either. We put light on issues and fissures that they let linger.
_______________________
Springfield, Va.: Jason -- I enjoyed your article. What was the gist of the controversial Clinton Portis interview the other day?
Jason La Canfora: The team is in disarray, they let real core Redskins leave and throw money around, there isn't enough communication between various parties. it was like 40 minutes long, so I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out.
_______________________
Bowie, Md.: One bone to pick. Although Andre Carter picked up his game towards the end of the season when we were out of the playoffs as you wrote, that shouldn't be a negative, as the teams we played were still in the playoff hunt. He could have mailed it in, but instead, stepped it up.
Jason La Canfora: "He could have mailed it in, but instead, stepped it up."
Is that really what you guys have come to expect with this franchise? They've beaten you guys down, too?
Just because the coach tries to praise a team that finished 2-4 like it had this great finish and talks about "effort" doesn't mean you guys need to buy it.
That's progress -- at least they didn't completely quit on Gibbs like they did on Snyder.
Most of them are making superstar money -- they could at least try for all 16 games. That's a lowest-common denominator deal, not a cause for accolades.
_______________________
Danbury, Conn.: Jason:
Good answer before -- all the whining about Gibbs coaching misses the greater point: it ain't his coaching, its his hand in personnel that hurts us. But how would it be any better with a new coach? Say Gibbs leaves, then some other coach comes in and the situation begins all over, this time with Snyder even more involved. Yikes.
So with all that said, when does Vinny Cerrato get the axe? Why is Danny "I want to win so badly, but please refer all complaints to Coach Joe" Snyder unwilling to transfer his business smarts to his football team and see that our scouting, drafting and overall personnel decisions are a shambles and that this Muppet needs to go?
Thanks.
Jason La Canfora: He's Danny's in-house spy in the minds of many in that building and someone the owner trusts to do whatever he wants whenever he wants. That's who gets ahead under this owner, so I don't see anything changes. Obviously, he serves a higher purpose in the eyes of the guy running the show.
No one expects him to be going anywhere given the way things are done around there.
_______________________
Boston: Jason,
Thanks for taking my question, it's two fold:
1. What could we "reasonably" expect to get from trading out of the No. 6 pick? A first and a second? A first and a third?
2. Can you update us on Dockery's negotiations?
Thanks. Forty-eight days until pitchers and catchers report to Fort Myers.
Jason La Canfora: 1. I think dropping down 5-6 picks and adding a high second rounder would make a lot of sense given how this draft is shaping up and all the needs the 'Skins have on D.
2. Made some calls on this throughout the week. They are not close. All I'll say is they'd better step up if they really want this kid to stay and not taste free agency. We'll see where they funnel their money. Will be an interesting negotiation to watch.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: Is Shawn Springs going to be back next year? Will he restructure? From the way it sounded in his interviews it doesn't sound like he's willing to do so. I hope he decides to restructure and move over to safety and have the 'Skins sign Nate Clements. I'm also hoping the 'Skins draft huge DT Alan Branch. He could be a difference maker on the line next to Cornelius Griffen and give the 'Skins a nice rotation with Golston. He would also make the DE's better.
Jason La Canfora: Shawn will hear them out on various things and would defer some money, but I don't see him taking a hit to stay here.
That safety talk got way out of control.
He knows he has a future at safety, but no one wants him to move for at least a few more years. This is not an imminent thing.
_______________________
Ashland, Va. : Every year the Redskins lose or let go a couple of solid players that were highly thought of in the locker room. Two examples from last year were Ryan Clark and Walt Harris. Who are a few of those type of guys the 'Skins need to make sure they hold onto this year?
Jason La Canfora: Phillip Daniels and Renaldo Wynn play vital, vital roles in team chemistry. Both are not producing much these days and have higher cap numbers in '07, but if they don't find a way to keep at least one around it could bite them.
_______________________
live from Africa: told ya i loved your work;;;im here in morroco and checked in to see the live chat forgetting the ti,e difference and that its actually LIVE right noz...excuse the typos im on an arabic keyboard in a cyber cafe.....thanks for another seasons worth of great coverage jason...thats about the only thing consistent for a skins fan
Jason La Canfora: Mr. Morroco -- thank you man. That's pretty cool to be interacting with someone in Africa right now.
All the props to you for checking in; I'm just doing my job, bro.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: Hey Jason -- will the 'Skins have to swap their pick in the draft with Denver from the Duckett trade or do they get to keep it? There's a big difference between picking 6 and picking 21!
Jason La Canfora: They have to give Denver their third-round pick in '07 and fourth-round in '08.
So Skins fans, if you're lucky, you might actually get an entire seven-round draft in 2009! That's something to celebrate.
_______________________
Rockville, Md.: You, Bryant, and Carpenter did a magnificent job this week of detailing the Redskins' internal situation. So far though, all we're hearing is the usual Joe Gibbs platitudes and homilies about "doing what's best for the Redskins."
Do you and your colleagues hear or see anything that leads you to believe Gibbs and Snyder understand how bad their organization is and the radical changes they have to make to get better?
Jason La Canfora: Thanks so much.
They seem to be in total denial to me, but that's just my opinion.
_______________________
National Cathedral: Simply put, when are we going to be better?? Is it really a management problem at this point, because so many bad years with a team that makes this much money is unheard of. The Yanks don't win every year, but they are in it...
Jason La Canfora: Until the man at the very top -- not Gibbs -- decides that certain structural changes are more important than having his hands in the cookie jar and keeping certain people around, I would not expect any long-term gains.
Could they catch lightning any given year and make a run, like the 5-game spree in 2006? Sure.
Are they built for sustained success and yearly playoff participation? Just look at their record under Snyder.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: Congratulations on the excellent series printed in The Post this week. The best sports reporting I have read in several years.
Joe Gibbs never relents in his effusive praise for Redskins fans, and while I take him at his word, the other half of the Redskins brain trust -- Daniel Snyder -- could scarcely be more disrespectful of his customers.
I attended the final home game against the Giants -- the only game I went to this season -- and I was shocked to learn that the Redskins do not show JumboTron replays of instances where they screwed up. The fan who spent anywhere from 50 to several hundred dollars to sit in Snyder's stadium does not get the courtesy of objectively watching a football game the way he or she would at home? Does Snyder think that if he only replays the successes, the loyal masses will be somehow convinced that he's fielding a good team? How utterly disrespectful of your clientele.
Add to this the team's attempts to be the sole disseminator of information about themselves. Freezing out Post reporters, limiting video content to its own Web site, seizing the radio rights for team-owned stations that don't offer decent reception INSIDE FedEx Field? (To say nothing of most of the District.)
And let's not forget the soaring ticket prices, non-stop ad blitz in the stadium and at their press conferences, and the debacle with the "Redskins MasterCard" from a few years back. And the fact that the nasty little man himself won't even do an interview to defend this callousness.
Honestly, Daniel Snyder could not be more disrespectful to his fans without being censured by the league. I wish I had been born a fan of another team, but I'm stuck with Redskins and Snyder will exploit that to no end.
Jason La Canfora: I get a lot of e-mails sharing this sentiment. Not sure what to say.
_______________________
D.C.: Has anyone seen or spoken to Brandon Lloyd since the three-part series came out which blasted him for his immaturity and rocky relationship with coaches and players? Even after Gibbs forgave him for throwing his helmet, Lloyd still came on TV with interviews acting like it was funny and all a joke, as he said he had no regrets and that everything was well intentioned, as he was just expressing his frustration on how the season for the 'Skins has gone, never mind his own lack of production.
Jason La Canfora: After his whole "no regrets" charade there isn't much more to say.
He left Redskins Park without answering questions, and that's cool too. His actions -- on the field, on the sidelines and behind closed doors -- spoke volumes.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: All this talk of Joe Gibbs football makes me sick. He wasn't always ultra-conservative. Gibbs teams of the past used to throw the ball deep and light up teams in the passing game. Has even Gibbs forgotten that?
Jason La Canfora: They are building towards that.
Problem is for three years they haven't had a QB who could do it (which is entirely their own fault).
JC is getting there. I think he will be able to spread defenses very well down the line, and has already done it in spurts.
_______________________
Paw Paw, W.V.: Jason:
Why all the hate for Danny-Boy? Don't your comments here and in your blog show a bias that's inappropriate for a beat reporter covering the team?
Why not just report the facts about the Boy Owner (warts and all) and leave the character assassination to others? Does his unwillingness to talk to you play into the animosity?
Jason La Canfora: What have I said that isn't a fact?
I don't hate him. I don't even know him. I don't care about him one way or the other. I don't care if he ever speaks to me or not. I covered the Red Wings for three years and never said a word to Mike Ilitch except to congratulate him after back-to-back Stanley Cup wins.
So let's look at today, and the facts.
Has Snyder ever walked among the fans in the upper deck during a game?
Have you ever seen him at FedEx Field not surrounded by a security force?
I've been on the beat for 3 years, 48 games, 13 preseason games and 2 playoff games.
These are facts.
People ask questions and I answer them as honestly as possible. He and Joe Gibbs make all final decisions. Losing reflects more on him than anybody, because Gibbs has only been there three years.
_______________________
Bethesda, Md.: Please tell me you at least laughed when Gibbs said this to you with a straight face:
As team president, Gibbs repeatedly has said he is to blame for the team's struggles. "It's not personnel, it's not scouting, it's not any of that. It's me," he said in an interview yesterday. "I haven't done a good enough job of coaching. Overall, it's me. People ought to be taking shots at me. Hang it on me."
What kind of medication is this guy on?
Jason La Canfora: I bit my lip.
I give Joe credit for taking the blame and being a standup guy, but the bottom line is there are issues in this organization well above him.
And while Joe may be the head coach, we know he is not directly running the offense or the defense or calling plays. So surely the problems run much deeper than him alone.
_______________________
Greenville, S.C.: JLC,
How was it to cover this year's Redskins team versus last year's team?
Jason La Canfora: Most difficult season I have ever covered. Nothing worse than a veteran underachieving team.
Last year was like taking a cruise in comparison.
Trust me, this is no fun for us either, but the job is what it is and when things go this poorly you have to try to explain why.
_______________________
The Shadow Knows: Byner is gone -- you heard it here first. Gibbs isn't even talking to him -- he thinks he was a major source of the "lost season" articles. Don't ask me how I know, but I do. Now for a question: is Arch coming back?
Jason La Canfora: First off, that assumption would be incorrect, but I am not surprised they would go on a witch hunt rather than assess the true state of their franchise and try to change for the better.
If true, that would crystallize how petty and backwards this organization is. That would be a typical reaction for them.
_______________________
Richmond, Va.: Jason -- sometimes people cannot see their problems because they are so involved in the details. Do you think Gibbs and Snyder have a hard time seeing the big picture?
Jason La Canfora: If they do, then shame on them. If the team president and owner don't have the ability to do that, then they're in the wrong positions.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: What happened to all the talk about doing things in Redskins Park like the Patriots?
I remember a couple years back, the Redskins claiming they were like the Patriots (obviously wrong).
Have they picked another team to "emulate"?
Jason La Canfora: Besides having owners not afraid of spending some money the franchises have virtually nothing in common.
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: Why does Gibbs continue to back Lloyd? If it makes no sense to us, the general public, I can't imagine how alienating it must be to people in the locker room -- especially after all this talk about "character guys."
Jason La Canfora: Why did he stick with John Hall forever?
Why did it take 10 weeks or whatever to change QBs?
Why did they never even give Betts a look in 2004?
Why did they trade a high draft pick for an injured, aging QB who was going to be cut?
Why did they give Lloyd the same money as Randle El and Moss when he had a year left and no proven track record?
Why does the No. 3 WR make essentially the same thing as the No. 1 WR and the No. 5 safety?
Need I go on?
_______________________
Washington, D.C.: If Lloyd fits in so poorly, why would the Redskins keep him and take the cap hit on Archuleta?
At least Archuleta plays special teams.
How can a genius like Williams not find some packages to put Archuleta into.
Wouldn't the Redskins be better off taking a hit on Lloyd and keeping a useful player like Archuleta even if he is grossly overpaid?
Is Archuleta disliked by his teammates or solely coach Williams?
What would a real GM do here?
Jason La Canfora: Adam is held in high regard by his teammates for how he handled a difficult situation.
Lloyd, not so much.

Jason La Canfora: Well guys, it's been real. Thanks for checking in here every Friday and for all of the great questions. I suppose we'll do this every once in a while in the offseason, and then crank it up again in training camp.
You can always e-mail me at lacanforaj@washpost.com, and I am on the blog as well.
Enjoy the playoffs and the freakishly warm weather.
Cheers.
