Blue Bloods: Lisa - I'm scared. I'm a mid-30s woman (who usually doesn't like Tom Selleck) and I'm enjoying "Blue Bloods"... only new show that I actually like. My mother, an ardent Selleck-fan, does not like it, even though she does like a lot of cops-and-lawyers show. I'm afraid the universe is out of whack. Help!

Lisa de Moraes: Hi. Sorry to keep everyone waiting. I was having lunch with a source and was keeping a close eye on the big hand of his watch. Apparently I should have kept an eye on the short hand too......Anyway, I'm intrigued by your family situation in re Tom Selleck. I'm guessing your mother is still shocked at how old and non-hot Selleck looks -- I'm getting that a lot from Viewers Who E-Mail...

Paul Williams: Live from "30 Rock": which version was best -- you decide!

Lisa de Moraes: Oh, and here's this week's poll. I'm also curious what everyone thought of the live episode last night. I for one learned a lot. For instance, Tracy Morgan should not do live TV -- he needs to be edited into funny. I never thought much of him on SNL and last night I was reminded why... And Jon Hamm doesn't do live TV well, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus is great, having that SNL live-TV background...

_______________________

She called me Pookie, too: Oh no -- not the Jimmy Smits show! As a child of the 80s, I'm embarrassed to admit, I only just fell under the Smits Spell after Season 3 of "Dexter" from Netflix- because let's all admit it, "A Capitol Fourth" last year was just smelly- but now I'm smitten. That's a lot of "sm's."Why did they put "Outlaw" on Friday nights to begin with? Aren't people out, doing things? I admit, I caught it on Hulu every week (I'm a grad student and can't afford DVR AND Netflix - am I made of money?).And, that the Cyrus-wins-everytime- through-big-risks-and pluck -over-the-little-guy plot was old, but I really was getting into it and hoping he'd sleep with the blonde.Say it ain't so NBC :(.You're keeping "Outsourced" but not this?

Lisa de Moraes: made a go of it on Friday nights is CBS. NBC thought it was going to out-CBS with this one. They were wrong. To reiterate: Jimmy Smits cannot open a show...

30 Rock : How were the ratings on the live episode? Read the review in the Post but how did you like it?

Lisa de Moraes: First, the good news: it scored a season high in ratings. I thought the two live episodes of "Will & Grace" a few years back were much better than this. I was reminded watching this why I never thought much of Tina Fey as head writer on "SNL"...it had some funny moments, but this show is much better -- and I am a big fan of the show -- when they have the opportunity to fine tune it before broadcast. Live TV is hard.

_______________________

30 Rock Live Show: First, I watch "Dancing with the Stars" but look forward to your wonderful recaps.Anyway, I found the live show last night hilarious. It reminded me of Sid Caesar and the Honeymooners, which I think were live--well before videotape. What did you think? Is there a chance for more live 30 Rock or perhaps a return to live primetime comedy sitcoms?

Lisa de Moraes: Yes, live TV is loads of fun, even when it's not a brilliant episode. It was nice to hear audience reax to the show. Definitely creates a different dynamic. I'm sure they'll do this again, but not regularly. They had to move the shoot from their regular location and use some of the "SNL" crew that was used to doing live TV, etc. I don't think it's in the stars to do it regularly...

_______________________

Barbara Walters is right: Now they may have done it for ratings. Very few people would have known Bill was on "The View." But Barbara was right to slap their wrists for walking off. Now I don't agree with Bill. But I don't agree with the "View" ladies either.

Paul Williams: Moraes on TV - Oprah no match for Barbara Walters and Bill O'Reilly and 'The View'

Lisa de Moraes: Yes, they got lots of press attention with that kerfuffle yesterday, which I'm guessing was the point. What did Whoopi and Joy expect O'Reilly was going to say? It wasn't like he took a new position. My fave was Elizabeth chiming in explaining how it was all Obama's fault. She's adorable...

_______________________

Puck on Glee: Is Puck gone for good, or is just too much to ask that guys who look 35 shouldn't be playing a high school kid on TV?'Glee' episode 4: We watch so you don't have to

Lisa de Moraes: Word on the street is that he's being "punished" for doing a solo album. Smells like a PR stunt to me.. I frankly don't care if he comes or goes.

_______________________

Charlottesville, Va: Lisa: Here's a dumb question. Why did last night's "30 Rock" look different?(I know it's live, but what about that made it look different than any other "30 Rock" ep). Thanks!

Lisa de Moraes: Different cameras, different-ish set, different crew, etc...

_______________________

The Middle: How's "The Middle" doing? The writing this year is still top-notch, and I hope it doesnt get the ax! Especially with that trainwreck "Better With You" stuck behind it.

Lisa de Moraes: Compared to "Better with You" it's a ratings hit... 8 million people compared to 6.4 million. The biggest problem in that Wednesday night timeslot isn't "The Middle" it's NBC's "Undercovers" which is down to under 6 million viewers and finishing fourth in the demo -- in a tie with CW's "America's Next Top Model".. That's very bad for a JJ Abrams show...

_______________________

Late today?: Tell us the truth, Pookie. Did Optimus Prime take your parking space?

Lisa de Moraes: I had to off Optimus Prime to get here for the chat..great reporting job!

_______________________

30 Rock live: I'm surprised Dorothy Michaels didn't take the opportunity afforded by the rare live broadcast to show the world that she's really a man.

Lisa de Moraes: "30 Rock" as "Tootsi"? Is Liz Lemon your Dorothy Michaels?

_______________________

Big Bang Theory vs Community: As a fan of both shows it has disturbed me that both shows now air at the same time. I have been watching BBT as I can catch Community OnDemand. However, BBT is just not that funny this year -- the Sheldon-Blossom pseudo-romance is more awkward than funny and there are no longer an overarching storylines to keep it going.Community, however, has really done a great job of developing characters and making each episode really unique. Is BBT lost forever so I should just focus on Community?

Lisa de Moraes: We need to find out if Chuck Lorre, now that he has a third sitcom on CBS, has delegated "BBT" to some other writer -- because the writing is definitely off this season.

_______________________

Glee/Puck: This week's episode said Puck has gone to Juvie - any word on if this means the character will be gone for the rest of the season and if so was it the actor's choice? Any real dirt here?

Lisa de Moraes: I wish I knew but that would involve caring enough to look into it and, try as I might, I can't....

_______________________

Painful admission and question: I am in love with Bravo's Andy Cohen. I am a straight middle aged woman. Should I be ashamed? On the one hand, his various "Real Housewives" franchises may be doing tremendous long term cultural damage and promoting the "values" and "careers" of many shallow, talentless, materialistic, narcississtic women. But he is just so darn cute and funny. I love his aftershows "Watch What Happens." Your thoughts.

Lisa de Moraes: You and I need to start a club. I too am morbidly fascinated by his show. Here's the programming guy for the network a) giving himself his own show and b) acting like a total fanboy when he interviews his own cast members. Shouldn't they be fawning over him, instead of the other way around?

_______________________

Her Oprahness: What exactly was in those envelopes under the seats? A ticket to a no-ticket-required rally? Do we know if Oprah is also putting the audience members up in a hotel, paying for transportation, food, etc.? Jon Stewart did warn them not to raid the minibars....

Lisa de Moraes: I believe she did not specify how they were getting down there -- train, bus, plane, etc... nor did she indicate she was putting them up in hotel rooms so I'm guessing that's not the case. It is, after all, a relatively short drive, compared to the flight to Australia. And this is, after all, a Viacom show, not one she owns...

_______________________

Good Guys hanging around?: Are ratings for "The Good Guys" picking up, or is it doomed? I'm enjoying it so much and would hate to see it disappear!

Lisa de Moraes: Strangely, it's very high on the DVR'd list... apparently people like it, they just aren't around Friday night to watch it. If Fox was clever, they'd change the name to "Cops" and run it on Saturdays -- they'd double its audience...

_______________________

3D: Should I buy a 3D tv so I can enjoy Jackass 3D in the original 3D as the director intended?

Lisa de Moraes: Absolutely. You cannot truly appreciate the movie in 2-D. It will also help to have seen them in 3D when you try to recreate the stunts in your back yard. Have fun!

_______________________

Outsourced: Wait - this thing is sticking around? Really? I need it to die so that I can have "Parks & Recreation" back. Tell NBC, pookie, I implore you, even if you have to disappoint your mom. I'm in their target demo! I'm pre-30, I have a high income, and no loved ones to distract me from the commercials.

Lisa de Moraes: NBC will bring back Parks & Rec because, I imagine, one of its Thursday sitcoms is gonna need a rest -- depends on how many episodes are ordered...

_______________________

Jim Belushi: How are ratings for the Jim Belushi attorney show doing? In my opinion, it is a surprisingly good show, as Belushi can do a straight show and still be appropriately funny.

Lisa de Moraes: It's doing very well -- 10 million viewers last week and won its timeslot in 18-49 year olds which,as you know, is great for CBS.

_______________________

I'm off the Jersey Shore train. : I'll admit that I actually enjoyed the first season of "Jersey Shore." I thought the cast acted just as they would of had the cameras not been there. But this latest season is dreadful. They're clearly playing up for the camera. And frankly, they're all kind of jerks. Completely unlikeable. I know I'm naive, but I like there to be at least some redeeming qualities in my reality tv stars. Are the ratings for this season doing well?

Lisa de Moraes: They swan around like stars, they've started chewing the scenery.. it's all downhill from here.

_______________________

Oprah on The Daily Show: I assumed they were plane tickets, but later Jon referenced the mini bar, so I'm guessing it's airfare and hotel. For 225 people.

Lisa de Moraes: whatever it is, it's cheap for great PR

_______________________

Undercovers: I quite enjoy that show. It isn't high art, but it's miles better than most other lame TV shows. The beauty on display is a bonus. I can't get through a full episode of the other two shows you mentioned in that time slot.

Lisa de Moraes: but for NBC, which is barely a broadcast network these days, to try to launch a new show at 8 -- the first hour of primetime -- was a very risky move to start with. I think they overestimated the draw of JJ...

_______________________

Want to Sell Out But No One's Buying: Pookie, the only thing that saddens me more than nuclear proliferation in South Asia is those horrible, horrible commercials in which Jerry Stiller reprises his role as Frank Costanza to shill for a bank. Does he really need the money?

Lisa de Moraes: I have not seen one of these ads but i'm now wearing my sad face just thinking about it...

_______________________

I must say: Lunch with you was wonderful

Lisa de Moraes: you're welcome....

_______________________

Fringe: Alternate Olivia = awesome. I like it when one actor plays two versions of the same character, like Sliding Doors.

Lisa de Moraes: You mean, like "Bewitched"!

_______________________

Glee in an 8pm time slot: Call me a puritan, but I am shocked at what "Glee" gets away with in an 8pm time slot. This week we saw 2 cheerleaders sorta kinda making out on a bed.

Lisa de Moraes: You are mistaken. They are totally making out,not sorta kinda. Yes, everyone keeps talking about what a wonderful show it is because it celebrates high school arts education. How sly of Ryan Murphy to have cast the show that way...

_______________________

How are they not related?: Lisa, do me a favor please... Look up a picture of Laura Innes, the actress who plays Sophia on "The Event."Put that next to a picture of Lauren Hodges, the actress who plays Tanya on "Rubicon."They could almost be twins separated at birth... and somehow separated by 30 years as well. I can't find any evidence of relation though... what's up with that? Is there some kind of conspiracy? These questions are melting my brain...

Paul Williams: Lauren Hodges | Laura Innes

Lisa de Moraes: Two very scary looking women in desperate need of bangs -- and by bangs I mean HAIR, people!...

_______________________

Why does CBS make watching The Mentalist so hard?: My DVR erred trying to record "The Mentalist" last week, I thought I might catch up on Hulu or iTunes, but it doesn't seem to be offered there. What's up with that? How can shows not be offered on different platforms than broadcast these days? The one way I DON'T watch TV is live, and if the DVR misses it, there has got to be another way.I know Hulu and iTunes don't count for ratings, but I'm a completist with TV shows, I like to watch all episodes in order, its annoying.

Lisa de Moraes: Don't blame CBS. It's a Warner Bros. TV show so they don't get to put is on one of those sites.. You need to think bad thoughts of Time Warner, not CBS...and you have just explained why, these days, networks try to buy most of their primetime programs from themselves, so they can have complete control over things like this...

_______________________

Mandy "Voice of an Angel" Patinkin: Pookie -- I saw Mandy onstage at the Berkeley (CA) Rep this week. Even though he stars in a play (Compulsion) about a writer obsessed with adapting the Diary of Anne Frank for the stage, he managed to sneak in a little singing during a scene transition. He still has a voice of an angel.

Lisa de Moraes: Ooh, I'm heading out to the west coast next week. How long is it playing?

_______________________

Tina Fey vs Snooki: I guess I don't get why people think Tina Fey is funnier than Snooki. And why doesn't Snooki make more money since more people watch "Jersey Shore" than "30 Rock"?

Lisa de Moraes: I'm sure her agent is asking these very questions to MTV suits as we chat...

_______________________

30 Rock and Glee: Are actors not under any kind of contract that prevents them from working on a competiting network? I'm thinking of the guy on "30 Rock" (Cheyenne Jackson) who has also appeared on this season of "Glee"? NBC really has no problem with him appearing on Fox?

Lisa de Moraes: I think he appeared on "Glee" for 30 seconds so I'm guessing he was guesting.

_______________________

View walkout: I personally think it was perfectly reasonable for Whoopi and Joy to walk out. O'Reilly's standard tactic is to bellow over his opponents and refuse to give an inch. If they hadn't walked out, he would have just kept going, and what he was saying was wrong and hateful. It was basically equivalent to blaming all Catholics for the IRA. By walking out, they got him to take some of it back and converse in a slightly more reasonable way, which is a huge victory when dealing with anyone from Fox News.

Lisa de Moraes: You make a good point. Though it raises the question: why have him on in the first place....

_______________________

On Demand Shows: Hi Lisa, I agree with Mr. Tony, you are the best thing to read in the Washington Post. Speaking of Mr. Tony, since he learned how to use direct TV, and looking at the fact that "Hawaii Five-0" was the most watched on demand show ever, (if I have that right) I tried it myself. But on my cable system, I do not have on Demand for CBS or FOX. Is that a business issue with my cable system (Charter)? or a network decision? Who decides what shows are then put on Demand?

Lisa de Moraes: The premiere of "H5-O" is the most DVR'd show ever. That's people who recorded it in their homes using their DVRs and watched it within seven days of its original broadcast...

_______________________

Keri Russell ... save your career: When will the network pull the plug on "Running Wilde"?

Lisa de Moraes: Not soon enough. I think for the sake of everyone working on that show it needs to go away fast..

_______________________

Increasingly Desperate Housewives: Is it just me or has this one jumped the Sharktopus too? After watching Susan clean house for internet porn, i have deleted this series from DVR.

Lisa de Moraes: I have not yet seen a single episode of this season. It's clogging up my DVR. Are you telling me I should zap them so I can record more episodes of "Modern Family"?

_______________________

No Ordinary Family: So I've been picking this one up online (it's on at the same time as "NCIS"), and I am thoroughly intrigued by the show so far...but I just wish they would get over the existential angst and intra-family drama over having superpowers, and get on with fighting crime and saving the world, y'know?

Lisa de Moraes: I know exactly. It was like that in my family when we discovered three of the four kids were left-handed. Only after years of existential angst and intra-family drama over this incredible phenomenon did we get over ourselves and focus on saving the world. You didn't know that my job covering TV is part of that Grand Master Plan?

_______________________

Glee for me?: So, I loved the first season of "Glee"...then I read about the changes that were coming in season 2 including the change of the music. And I'm a Gen-X guy and liked the mix including some music from my youth and some newer music. I haven't started watching the season 2 episodes yet and they won't be on Hulu much longer...do you think it worth it to jump back on the bandwagon for season 2?

Lisa de Moraes: Yes, the music is great. This week's duets were really fun to watch. There, I said it.. Now, if only they could come up with some storylines...

_______________________

New shows: Okay, so new shows I've been watching so far this season include "Outsourced," "@#!$ My Dad Says" (or is it spelled $ before !?), "Running Wilde," and have also been interested in "Raising Hope" and "No Ordinary Family." Which one is the most likely to make it and stick around? Which is the weak link (or should I call it the next "Lone Star"?)?

Lisa de Moraes: Well, as we've already established, "Outsourced" is doing okay. "$#*! My Dad Says" is nearly "hit" material (gak!), and "No Ordinary Family" is doing okay, given that it's a new show trying to kick off a night which is really dumb scheduling, sorry ABC but it is. "Raising Hope" just got an order for "the back nine" episodes, meaning a full-season's worth. That leaves "Running Wilde" which is doing poorly and which should be put out of its misery as soon as possible. It would be a mercy killing.

_______________________

Falls Church Nitpicker: Do you think Jon and Stephen always planned on just one rally? Or could Stephen really not get a permit?

Lisa de Moraes: It was always planned as one big clambake and I think it was the viewers who were getting confused -- and the press wasn't giving Colbert enough ink -- so they decided to mash them together... Never should have cluttered up the brilliant Glenn-Beck-rally-spoof with the added Fear March in the first place.

_______________________

why changes in East v. West versions: Who was the man who sang the intro on the West coast version of "30 Rock"? I also noticed that they changed the hand in the fake hand transpant commerical from black to a woman's hand with red polish in the West coast version.

Lisa de Moraes: That was the aforementioned Cheyenne Jackson. There were several changes for the west coast edition, which may account for why 71 percent of you think the east coast version was better. Sometimes "change is good" does not apply..

_______________________

Live from New York, it's 30 Rock!: Jack Brayer shouldn't do live TV either. Or was the giggling part of the story?Cheyenne Jackson sang the opening for the West Coast broadcast.

Lisa de Moraes: There was much speculation he was going to erupt into laughter if he tried to do live TV. I'm guessing that "speculation" was planted by NBC flaks...

_______________________

30 Rock Live: Meh. Didn't do much for me. Seemed everyone was trying too hard and overacting.

Lisa de Moraes: I'm with you. I love live TV but this was not brilliant example. On the other hand, what the heck, they tried to mix it up and got loads of press attention for a show that really needs some viewers...

_______________________

LOLA: It dawned on me this week that the other cop (not Skeet Ulrich) looks and sounds like John Malkovich. Once you realize this, it becomes a very different show.

Lisa de Moraes: a better one?

_______________________

Weekend Road Trip: The Liberace Museum is closing its doors after this weekend. Who's with me? Too bad, actually, outstanding schlock and the old bygone stuff.

Lisa de Moraes: how sad....

_______________________

18-49 is where it's at.: Why do you use the total viewer number when referring to ratings when advertisers and the networks only care about the 18-49 demo? For example, "The Good Wife" (so good this year) gets about 12 million viewers but is a bubble show b/c it only gets a 2.5 in the demo.

Lisa de Moraes:

_______________________

The Good Wife: Better or worse this season?

Lisa de Moraes: WaPo TeamTV "Jersey Shore" correspondent Emily Yahr, so, based on that, I'd have to go with "better." I'm out of time. have a great weekend.
