Not even a 12-hour time difference could stop Joyce Yu and John Feketekuty from finding true love with each other.

Joyce Yu and John Feketekuty met while both were students at the Univ. of Maryland in 2005. Their friendship started off rocky, but would later turn into a serious romantic relationship. The couple exchanged vows on Aug. 15 at the Glenview Mansion in Rockville, Md.

Early on in their courtship, he'd cancelled a lunch date with her, because he was sick with the flu. When Feketekuty woke up from a nap that same day, he found a big pot of chicken soup on the stove. His roommates told him that Yu had dropped it off. "That was a very big moment in the relationship," he says.

Soon after, he was introducing her to his parents and friends. When Yu's student visa expired right after graduation, however, she had to return home to Taiwan. "I remember I was with my laptop, looking at John's pictures and I was crying very hard," she recollects.

Feketekuty was resolute: "At the time I knew I was going to get Joyce back somehow. I was confident I was going to figure out a way," he remembers.

The next 15 months were tough, but when he was sent on a work assignment to Taiwan to research Chinese companies, it would reunite them.

Yu's parents didn't understand how the couple's long distance relationship would last. On his final night in Taiwan, Feketekuty, who'd taken Mandarin classes, asked Yu's parents for her hand in marriage in their native language -- and a blessing was given.

The event was catered by Uptown and included cuisines from both from Feketekuty and Yu's cultures, including Greek and Asian salads. A multi-tiered wedding cake had intricate details.

After three years of fighting for their relationship, the two are now learning how to be in it again. Whenever they argue, Yu often jokes to her new husband: "Look at what we've been through -- there's nothing else that can pull us apart."
