They first met in 1996 through a mutual acquaintance and became fast friends while both were living in West Virginia. They lost touch, however, when Fox moved away to attend art school.

After more than three years apart, she reconnected with him while Russo was in New Jersey working at a restaurant. A long-distance relationship developed, and he eventually moved to Washington where she lived. After six months, they broke up.

Despite their break-up, the couple spent the next few years casually dating. Fox eventually needed more and decided to move on. Although, she tried to forget about Russo, Fox was still in love and he felt the same. They decided to give it another try -- officially, this time.
