Halloween Costumes
Check out how some Washingtonians dressed for the holiday festivities.
The Blue Man Group did not come to Silver Spring for Halloween. That's Sat Jiwan Ikle-Khalsa, a green-building consultant from Takoma Park, who dressed up like a "French painting that's been overtaken by sea-level rise" for a party at the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center on Oct. 24.

Michael Beer, the executive director of Nonviolence International, and his wife, Latanja, a sixth-grade science teacher, are creative with their his-and-her costumes every year. He came to the Pyramid Art Center party as South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, and she was ... the Appalachain Trail, naturally.

Chris Evy had company at the Pyramid Art Center Halloween party in Silver Spring on Oct. 24. Several partygoers came as the Public Option in some form.

Kristen Dill, a graphic designer, "will work for organic, locally grown, biodynamic, solar powered, non-violent food." She and Geneva Moss, a mother, were trying to evoke the characters of a contemporary Depression with their costumes.

Cue the editorial cartoon: "The current health-care system," says Scott Garrison, who dressed as Death with a patriotic flair, "it's not survivable. ... I don't know whether to smile or frown."

DC-101's Flounder spins tunes at the Metromix Halloween party at the Capitol Skyline Hotel on Oct. 31, while Clark Kent (Todd Rosenthal, 28, of Rockville) keeps the room safe from evil.

Foxxy Lady: Shayla Overstreet, 25, of Upper Marlboro channels Beyonce at the Metromix party, showing up as Foxxy Cleopatra from the third "Austin Powers" movie. Groovy, baby.

But Wait, There's More: Angela Wills, 33, of Fort Washington was crowned the costume contest winner at the Metromix party at the Capitol Skyline Hotel, for dressing as Interstate 495. Celebrity chef Spike Mendelssohn, who served as the contest's judge, named 27-year-old Gaithersburg resident David Craig (a.k.a. deceased pitchman Billy Mays), the runner-up.
