Tony Award Nominees: Famous Faces
A look at some of the recognizable faces from movie and television who are nominated for Tony Awards this year.
This year's roster of Tony Award nominees features a number of high-wattage stars, contenders whose faces are as likely to be seen in People magazine as they are on a Broadway stage. Take, for example, first-time Tony nominee Scarlett Johansson and previous Tony winner Liev Schreiber, both Hollywood actors recognized for their work in "A View from the Bridge." The Tony Awards will be broadcast Sunday, June 13 on CBS.
Alfred Molina -- stage veteran, previous Tony Award nominee and an actor known for his roles in such films as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Spider-Man 2" -- is nominated in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Play category, for his work as Mark Rothko in "Red."
Both Denzel Washington and Viola Davis have been recognized for their turns in the revival of August Wilson's "Fences." Davis won a Tony in 2001 for her role in "King Hedley II"; this is Washington's first nomination. Both have been recognized by Oscar voters, also, with Davis getting a nomination for "Doubt," while Washington has won twice (supporting actor for "Glory" and lead actor for "Training Day").
Well-known stars of television -- including former "Frasier" star Kelsey Grammer, pictured here with his "La Cage Aux Folles" co-star Douglas Hodges -- also earned nominations this year. Grammer is up in the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical category.

Five-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury got a nod for her work in "A Little Night Music," as did Academy Award winner (and first-time Tony nominee) Catherine Zeta-Jones.
Jude Law -- a film actor and frequent fodder for Hollywood gossip columns -- earns his second Tony Award nomination for "Hamlet," 15 years after his first Tony nod, for "Indiscretions." Can he beat Schreiber, Molina, Washington and Christopher Walken ("A Behanding in Spokane")? We'll find out June 13.
