A MUSEUM OF ONE'S OWN: Private Collecting, Public Gift By Anne Higonnet Periscope, $50 In this captivating work of art scholarship, Higonnet profiles some of the most illustrious "collection museums" -- ones established by private parties to house their own collections. Those she covers are the Wallace Collection, the Musée Condé, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Frick Collection, the Huntington Art Gallery and Dumbarton Oaks. Many of these collections still exist much as their founders left them (and often decreed that they remain), although the Barnes Collection -- outside Philadelphia but on its way to a new downtown location -- is a notable exception.
