The Kennedy Center's India festival: Ten things you have to see

The Kennedy Center's Maximum India festival kicks off March 1. For three weeks, the center will feel like a street market in Mumbai, a silk shop in Chennai, an airy palace in Rajasthan -- all with the Potomac River still in view. "You can't do a small festival of Indian culture," says Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser. We focus on 10 top stops.

1. "The Manganiyar Seduction"
March 19-20. Witness the spectacle of a clan of superlative Sufi-influenced musicians performing in a series of boxes stretching 36 feet wide. When each musician plays, his respective box lights up, an effect director Roysten Abel likens to a "lovely gem box." The result? A show that's one-part performance art, one-part "Hollywood Squares."
