Barreling Toward a Mystery

The Maryland Department of the Environment has joined nonprofit environmentalist groups in investigating an enduring mystery of the Potomac River: plastic barrels. These barrels, standing more than waist-high, wash up by the dozens along the river. A one-day cleanup last month found 42 of them.
