Iraqis will elect a legislature today that will choose a new president. Dominant Shiite Muslim and Kurdish parties in the current government have campaigned to retain their hold on power, while major Sunni Arab groupings will try to win seats and a stronger political role that eluded them when they boycotted elections in January for a transitional National Assembly.
