Israelis today elect a new parliament, or Knesset, and indirectly choose a new prime minister in a political landscape transformed by Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's incapacitation and the victory of the militant Hamas movement in Palestinian elections.
