The Missing Step

Researchers have found the fossil of a key transitional creature that blurs the distinction between fish and land-living animals. This river-dwelling predator, Tiktaalik roseae, could stand up on mud flats river bottoms. It provides the closest look yet at the moment when life first crawled from water to land.
