The audacious scope of financial chicanery at Enron Corp. galvanized the government to crack down on corporate malfeasance, a pursuit that ultimately brought low many high-flying businesses, prompted Congress to pass the Sarbanes Oxley corporate governance law, and culminated yesterday with the convictions of former chief executives Kenneth L. Lay and Jeffrey K. Skilling.
