Pinpointing Structural Collapse

The National Institute of Standards and Technology uses a mathematical model to predict areas on the USS Arizona that are likely to become unstable and from which oil might leak in the next 10 to 20 years. The hull is cradled in sediment and more likely to remain stable than top portions of the ship. This photo shows the area scientists are studying and potential locations of structural collapse.
