Printing Bills

From the moment a member of Congress submits a new bill, the Government Printing Office has to publish 10 different documents related to the legislation. Some of these documents require 24-hour turnaround, and the GPO maintains crews around the clock. The final version of a bill that goes to the president for his signature is printed on parchment. Even as the government moves to produce more documents electronically, the current 10-step printing process is expected to continue.
