Eastern Market, one of the few public fresh-food markets in the District, was severely damaged by a fire early yesterday. About 75 percent of the building was affected by the blaze, with the South Hall sustaining most of the damage. The building, which is owned by the District government, has been in continuous operation since it opened in 1873.
