Delta Disparities

In the Mississippi Delta, about 95 percent of federal agriculture subsidies goes to owners of large farms, most of whom are white. Another program, called Rural Development, is aimed at helping poor rural areas, which in the Delta are predominately black. But in 10 Delta counties The Post examined, only $1 went toward rural development for every $22 in farm subsidies.
