Candidates for president are shattering records for fundraising in a non-election year, but also spending money at a historic rate. For the primary election, some candidates are spending more than they take in over a given fundraising period, creating a perilous "burn rate." Hillary Clinton has an additional $12 million available should she win the nomination; Barack Obama has $2 million.
