Piracy on the Rise

Twenty-two percent of Americans admitted to buying products they knew or suspected were "not genuine or legitimate" in the past year. Songs and movies were among the most popular counterfeit items. At the same time, sales and rentals of DVDs - which soared from 1999 to 2004 - have begun to flatten, worrying movie studios. CD sales have declined from a 2000 peak.
