Suspicious Refunds

The amount and frequency of suspicious property tax refund checks issued by the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue increased dramatically over the past seven years, according to a Washington Post analysis. The average amount of a suspicious check climbed steadily to more than $400,000 in the past two years, compared with about $10,000 for a normal refund check.
