Making a Path for a Declining Crab Population

The Chesapeake Bay's blue crabs are near a historically low ebb, their populations reduced by fishing, pollution and warmer water temperatures. Now, some scientists are pushing for new protections for the shellfish, including a possible sanctuary aimed at protecting female crabs before they spawn.

Article | COLONIAL BEACH, Va., April 15 -- The governors of Virginia and Maryland pledged Tuesday to make a drastic cut in the harvest of Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, citing new data that show the struggling species continues to be heavily overfished.
