Record Fundraising for 2008 Cycle

The top-giving industries and interests during the last presidential election season have increased their total donations to congressional and presidential candidates, as well as to national party committees, by a whopping 46 percent, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. "A power shift in Congress and a wide-open race for the White House add up to record-breaking contributions from the nation?s biggest givers," said Sheila Krumholz, the center's executive director. "There is an intensity to the fundraising for 2008 that we?ve never seen before."
